We address the evolution of regional human rights systems (Inter-American, European and African) from the perspective of transnational history (or global history). Initially influenced by the geopolitical dynamics of the Cold War, the regional systems quickly adapted to their local conditions and developed their own strategies to protect and promote human rights. The three regional systems participated in a collective construction that started from the Western tradition of human rights, but evolved with multilateral contributions emerged from common and specific challenges, which allowed the expansion of human rights protection beyond traditional liberal forms, incorporating a progressive agenda and protecting rights in horizontal relationships between individuals in the European and Inter-American case and collectivist rights in the African case. The result is an approach to human rights that is more responsive to cultural and social conditions.||No presente artigo, aborda-se a evolução dos sistemas regionais de direitos humanos (interamericano, europeu e africano) na perspectiva da história transnacional (global history). Inicialmente influenciados pela dinâmica geopolítica da Guerra Fria, os sistemas regionais rapidamente se adaptaram às suas condições locais, desenvolvendo estratégias próprias de proteção e promoção dos direitos humanos. Os três sistemas regionais participaram de uma construção coletiva ligada à tradição ocidental de direitos humanos, mas evoluíram com contribuições multilaterais ao enfrentar desafios comuns e específicos, o que permitiu a ampliação da proteção para além das formas liberais tradicionais, incorporando uma agenda progressista e tutelando relações horizontais entre indivíduos (direitos da personalidade) no caso europeu e interamericano e direitos coletivistas no caso africano. O resultando é uma abordagem aos direitos humanos mais responsiva a condições culturais e sociais.
