Analisam-se as denominações dadas à mulher homossexual no estado do Maranhão, estado localizado na região da Amazônia Legal. A análise busca apresentar aspectos do tabu linguístico relacionado à sexualidade e reunir traços de uma imagem social relacionada à mulher no imaginário social. Dessa forma, problematiza-se a questão da homossexualidade e de que forma ela tem sido compreendida nos tempos atuais. Parte-se do pressuposto de que as denominações dadas a mulher homossexual são formas de cristalização de uma mentalidade de uma sociedade patriarcal em que a mulher deve apresentar comportamentos pré-estabelecidos. O trabalho se insere entre os estudos do léxico e do tabu linguístico. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas no município Vitorino Freire, na região Central do Maranhão, com 35 participantes com um perfil socioeconômico que abarque uma identidade social que representa uma estratificação social daquele município. As entrevistas foram realizadas de modo espontâneo por meio de pesquisa de campo. Os dados desta pesquisa foram analisados a partir de uma discussão no campo das ciências humanas que tematizam a questão tabu sobre a sexualidade e a mentalidade social que se cristaliza no léxico. Os resultados mostram que as denominações dadas à mulher homossexual apresentam significados relacionados a tabus e que revelam uma consciência conservadora ainda hoje sobre a questão da homossexualidade feminina.||The names given to homosexual women in the state of Maranhão, a state located in the Legal Amazon region, are analyzed. The analysis seeks to present aspects of the linguistic taboo related to sexuality and bring together traces of a social image related to women in the social imagination. In this way, the issue of homosexuality and how it has been understood in current times is problematized. It is assumed that the denominations given to homosexual women are forms of crystallization of a mentality of a patriarchal society in which women must present pre-established behaviors. The work falls between the studies of lexicon and linguistic taboo. Data were collected through interviews in the municipality of Vitorino Freire, in the Central region of Maranhão, with 30 participants with a socioeconomic profile that encompasses a social identity that represents a social stratification in that municipality. The interviews were carried out spontaneously through field research. The data from this research were analyzed based on a discussion within the field of human sciences that addresses the taboo issue of sexuality and the social mentality that crystallizes in the lexicon. The results show that the names given to homosexual women have tabooed meanings and that they reveal a conservative awareness even today on the issue of female homosexuality.
