This article aims to analyze the construction of a church in a peripheral neighborhood in the city of Uberlândia, state of Minas Gerais. This church was designed by architect Lina Bo Bardi in partnership with the Franciscan friars who worked in that neighborhood, and the entire planning and construction process of the church took place with the active participation of the community.
Having been the church listed at state level by IEPHA, our objective is to think of this building as a heritage linked both to that specific process of popular participation, but also as a monument of a time when popular movements with the support of the progressive church and aligned intellectuals they sought to build a new country project after the Military Dictatorship||Este artigo se propõe a analisar a construção de uma igreja em um bairro periférico na cidade de Uberlândia, estado de Minas Gerais. Esta igreja foi projetada pela arquiteta Lina Bo Bardi em parceria com os frades franciscanos que atuavam naquele bairro, sendo que todo o processo de planejamento e construção da igreja ocorreu com a participação ativa da comunidade.
Tendo sido a igreja tombada em nível estadual pelo IEPHA nosso objetivo é pensar este edifício como um patrimônio ligado tanto aquele processo específico de participação popular, mas também como um monumento de uma época onde os movimentos populares com o apoio da igreja progressista e de intelectuais alinhados buscavam construir um novo projeto de país após a Ditadura Militar.
