Based on Benjamin (2012), Flusser (2011) and Machado (1984), we propose a discussion about the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) through two distinct moments in World Cups: the handheld goal scored by the Argentine Diego Maradona (1986) and Croatian Ivan Perišić's hand on the ball (2018). We point out that the presence of VAR in football brings new layers of interpretation and subjectivity from the technical image, challenging the belief in the objectivity and precision of a match.||A partir da leitura de Benjamin (2012), Flusser (2011) e Machado (1984), propomos uma discussão acerca da utilização do Video Assistant Referee (VAR) através de dois momentos distintos em Copas do Mundo: o gol de mão marcado pelo argentino Diego Maradona (1986) e a mão na bola do croata Ivan Perišić (2018). Apontamos que a presença do VAR no futebol traz novas camadas de interpretação e subjetividade a partir da imagem técnica, desafiando a crença na objetividade e a precisão de uma partida.
