In his eighth book, Argentine sociologist Silvio Waisbord views communication studies as a field marked by disarticulation and diversity, both in thematic and theoreticalmethodological terms. It is, according to him, an area with no prospect of finding its own intellectual identity, although united as an administrative structure. We argue that, despite the timid philosophical attitude and lack of more systematic bibliographical research on the issues raised, the author does not fail to fulfill what he promises in the introduction to Communication: a post-discipline: providing an overview of the current state of research in communication.||Em seu oitavo livro, o sociólogo argentino Silvio Waisbord encara os estudos de comunicação como um campo marcado pela desarticulação e diversidade, tanto em termos temáticos, quanto teórico-metodológicos. Trata-se, segundo ele, de uma área sem perspectiva de encontrar sua própria identidade intelectual, embora unida enquanto estrutura administrativa.
